Hagar lived in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Church records show that on January 16, 1778, Hagar and Caesar (known as Caesar Bailey and Caesar Dickinson) were married. Both were recorded as being "servants to Samuel Dickinson." Nathaniel and Samuel were brothers who lived together until their farm was seized due to Nathaniel's Tory (favoring British rule) activities. Caesar and Hagar then became Samuel's property.
Caesar died fighting and years later Hagar filed for his pension but was turned down, due to "no proof of service, contradictory statements." By 1810, Hagar was in Richmond, Massachusetts. She appears in the town's census for that year with 3 people in the "all other free persons" column. According to The History of Deerfield, she was in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in 1842, and was then about 88 years old.
