Town was one of at least three people enslaved by Elijah Williams (1712-1771) of Deerfield, Massachusetts. From 1761-1765, Town had an account at Elijah Williams’s store where he bought a variety of small items. His purchases included a cotton handkerchief, fishing line, shoe buckles, various kinds of fabric and sewing notions, gloves, and a mouth harp, also called a Jew’s harp, or mouth harp. Town paid for his purchases with fox pelts, tobacco, and cash.
