- Location:
- Deerfield, MA
- Description:
- In 1890, the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association of Deerfield, Massachusetts, published the first of what would eventually become an eight-volume series of the organization’s history and proceedings from 1870-1938. The Proceedings included written versions of historical papers delivered by members and guests of the P.V.M.A., including a paper titled, “Slavery in Massachusetts” by Phinehas Field (1799-1884) of Charlemont, Massachusetts, in 1879 (Vol. I, pp. 480-486.) Field's presentation was also printed in the local newspaper; a reader placed this copy in a scrap book currently in the P.V.M.A. Library.
