- Location:
- Deerfield, MA
- Description:
- George Sheldon (1818-1916) diligently researched the early history of Deerfield, Massachusetts, and the surrounding region, including identifying local men who served in the Massachusetts militia and Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He used surviving primary sources to create this list of “Deerfield People” who marched to Cambridge under the command of Captain Joseph Stebbins when the town received the news of the battle fought at Lexington and Concord on April 19. Sheldon’s notes include individual names with the number of days they served. The list is in the George Sheldon’s Notes at the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association Library, Sheldon, Box 5:4, List of Dfld. People who Served in the Campaign of 1775 & with the number of days they served before the 2d of August – as far as is known.”
