William Williams Day Book

Location:
Deerfield, MA
Description:
William "Bill" Williams (1711-1784) kept this day book recording day-to-day transactions for the years 1750-1753. A member of the prominent Williams family, Bill Williams raised and commanded militia troops during the colonial wars of the 1740s and '50s; he also supplied various forts along the Massachusetts frontier. Now in the Special Collections of Smith College, the day book records transactions at a store Williams briefly operated in Deerfield, Massachusetts, managed by his kinsman Elijah Williams of Deerfield. Bill Williams relocated to present-day Pittsfield in 1752.
