Orlando Ware Day Book

Location:: Deerfield, MA
Description:: Many of the business accounts kept by Orlando Ware (1779-1860), a Deerfield, Massachusetts, storekeeper survive for the years 1802-1857. These four volumes of his day book record Ware’s day-to-day transactions with his many customers, including African Americans, from 1802-1818. The Ware day books are part of a collection of more than 600 account books currently in the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association Library kept by local merchants, professionals, farmers, craftspeople, and business firms from the 17th - 20th centuries.
