Thomas Dickinson (1718-1814) was born in Hatfield, Massachusetts, and moved to Deerfield in 1752 with his wife, Prudence (Smith) Dickinson and four young children. The couple had five more children and Dickinson became a prominient and successful resident. An accomplished rider and hunter, he served in the the French and Indian War (1754-1763) and the American Revolution (1775-1783). Dickinson died in 1814, aged 96.
Thomas Dickinson enslaved Ishmael, Peter, and Hartford. He also rented the services of Titus, who was enslaved by Deerfield's minister, the Reverend Jonathan Ashley.
