There were several African American men named Peter in Deerfield, Massachusetts. One was enslaved by Samuel Dickinson (1687-1761). Dr. Thomas Williams treated Peter numerous times from October, 1754, through early December, 1755.
Although there are other account book and daybook entries for "Peter" or "Peter Negro", it is difficult to know who they are unless, as in the case of this man, an enslaver is mentioned. If the person was free and had no surname, it is impossible to know for certain who they were.
