Anthony was captured from his home in Africa and enslaved. He gained his freedom and was living in Amherst, Massachusetts, by 1833, when he married Louisa Jackson. The couple apparently had no children. He was declared a State pauper in 1836 and died before 1838; the town listed his widow as a pauper in 1838 and 1839.
