Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution (V. 8,pg. 595) describes James Huzza in 1781 as being 34 years old, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, with a black complexion and black hair. He was from Conway, Massachusetts and his occupation was listed as farmer. He served in the Continental Army for 3 years. He married Susanna Tobe on Jan. 20, 1785. In the Conway vital records is listed the death of “James, Negro man”, who died in June of 1817. This might refer to the same man. He might also have lived in New Salem, Massachusetts. The federal census for that town lists James Hussey with 9 in the column for "All Other Free Persons."
