Charles was the son of Peter, Sr. and Violette Green of Colrain, Massachusetts. He was a blacksmith. In October of 1816, Charles married Lucinda Dors. The 1820 census for Colrain lists him as the head of household with six "free colored persons." One male and two females between the ages of 26 and 44 are listed. This would have been Charles, Lucinda, and possibly Charles' older sister, Lettie (Lettis, Lettice, Violette), who was partially blind. One male over the age of 45 is noted. This was probably Charles' father, Peter, Sr., who was an invalid and might have lost his second wife that year. Two males aged 14-25 are listed and their names and relation to the family are unknown. The 1830 federal Colrain census lists five "free colored persons" in his household- Charles, Lucinda, and two boys and a girl under the age of 10. The 1840 census shows that the daughter might have died and Lettie was living with them again. The 1850 census lists Charles as being Black, aged 58; Sarah, a "Mulatto", aged 29; Frederick D., a "Mulatto", aged 14; and Lettie, who was Black, aged 63, and noted as being a pauper. It is unclear whether Sarah and Frederick were the children of Charles or a relative.
Lucinda died in 1843 or 1844. Charles is buried in the Brick School Cemetery in Colrain, near the graves of his wife, father, and his brother Peter, Jr.
