Sally was born in 1798 in Deerfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Paul and Juda Paine Goff. Sally and her brother Arandol were born in Deerfield, and the other children were born in nearby Heath. Paul Goff is listed as the head of household in the Deerfield 1800 census with 4 people in the "all other free persons" column. By 1820, the Goffs had moved to Loweville, NY and the census listed 10 "Free Colored" family members.
