On pg. 389 of Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution, Vol. 6, Thomas Gibbs is described in 1780 as being 28 years old, 5 feet and 3 inches tall, with "complexion, negro." He enlisted for Sunderland, Massachusetts, and served with the Continental Army for 3 months in 1777, and 6 months in 1780.
