Bio

Orinda was the wife of Pedro Fenimore, Sr. of Hatfield, Massachusetts. He appears in three federal census reports for that town. In the 1810 report his surname is given as "Fineman," and four people, one of whom would be Orinda, are listed in the "All Other Free Persons" column. In the 1820 census the whole family appears as "Free Colored Persons." The surname is given as "Finnimore." Orinda is listed in the column for females aged 26-45, and Pedro, Sr. was over the age of 45. Pedro, Jr. was under the age of 14. Another boy is listed there as well, and a girl appears in the column for females under the age of 14, but their names are unknown. The 1830 census gives the surname of "Finemure." The family had grown to 10 members, with two males and two females under the age of 10, one male and one female aged 10-23, one female aged 24-35, one female aged 36-54, and Pedro and Orinda aged 55-99.

By the 1850 census, Orinda was still in Hatfield, living with her son Pedro, Jr. She died in Adams, Massachusetts, on February 14, 1852. On the death record for that year for that town her occupation was given as "maid color'd."
