Bio

Joseph was from Whately, Massachusetts. According to Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War (Vol. 13, pg. 923), he was 25 years old when he enlisted in 1779. He stood 5 feet, 8 inches tall and had a black complexion and black hair.

In 1777, Joseph served for two months in Capt. Salmon White’s Co., Col. David Wells’ Regiment. He was stationed at Fort Ticonderoga, New York. In 1779, he served for nine months in Capt. Benjamin Woodbridge’s Co., Col. Israel Chapin’s Regiment.

It is difficult to know more about this man, as "Scott" is a common surname in Whately and although there were several men by the name of "Joseph Scott" in town, they appear to have been White.
