Cato Lewis

Bio

Cato was born in Warwick, Rhode Island around 1748. As an adult he lived in Northampton, Massachusetts, where he was a farmer. In Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the American Revolution (Vol. 9, pg. 733) he is described as standing  5 feet, 9 inches tall with a black complexion and black hair. 

Military Service

• Jan. 6, 1781; Capt. Benjamin Heywood’s Co., 6th Massachusetts Regiment; enlisted for 3 years
• Feb. 3- Sept. 1, 1781; paid for 6 months, 26 days of service
• Sept. 1, 1781; transferred to Capt. Daniel Pillsbury’s Co.
• Jan.-Dec. 1782; Capt. Daniel Pillsbury’s Co., Lieut. Col. Calvin Smith’s Regiment; served 12 months
• March- Apr. 1783; Capt. Benjamin Heywood’s 4th Co., Col. Benjamin Tupper’s 6th Regiment 
• Private in Capt. Matthew Chambers’ Co., Lieut. Col. Calvin Smith’s Regiment
