In Deerfield, Massachusetts resident John Wilson's diary, is a chart titled "Poor house Callendar" that lists "Pauper Names", their ages, when they entered the poorhouse, and when they died. An entry for "Dwight Wills (Negro)" shows he entered on October 23, 1822, and died on March 22, 1824, at the age of two. In the "Remarks" column is noted "State poor." In Wilson's "Account of Money Held for the support of States Poor" Dwight Wills [Wells] appears in a list of names in entries for January 1, 1823 and January 1, 1824.
