Caleb, Jr. was the son of Caleb Sharp (ca. 1729-1799) of Conway, Massachusetts. On September 23, 1773, he married Elisabeth Abel, Jr. of nearby Ashfield. They had seven children- John, birthdate unknown, died November 8, 1776; Caleb III, born April 13, 1776; Sarai, born February 13, 1778; William, born February 7, 1780; Dorcas, born March 4, 1782; Solomon, born April 3, 1784; and Joshua, born December 21, 1786.
